Uisce Éireann made a massive billing error on my account and wrongly took over €4,500 from my bank. They admitted the mistake, issued a corrected bill for about €200, and yet still took the wrong amount.What followed was days of emails, being passed from person to person, contradictory information, and endless delays. I confirmed the refund amount and authorised the transfer early in the day, waited all day, and was then told at the end of the day that it was being “passed to another department”.I was then told the refund would be processed “shortly”, only to be informed later that it could take up to 14 days to return money that was taken in error. Meanwhile, I had bills due and no access to my own money.No urgency. No accountability. No ownership of the mistake. Just apologies and excuses.This level of incompetence and indifference to the financial impact on customers is unacceptable. If you value your time, your money, or your sanity, be prepared for a fight if they make a mistake — because they certainly won’t rush to fix it.
