I would give the We Make Footballers Team in Walthamstow zero stars, based on the experience of my son’s trial introductory session, however the lowest score that I could select on Trustpilot was one star. The We Make Footballers Walthamstow Team emailed me to ask if my son and I were able to make the introductory football session. This was my response to them:The fact that you are asking if we were able to attend the introductory football session speaks volumes. We did attend the football session, but we left early because the lesson was unsatisfactory. Clearly, the coaches did not make a note of our son attending. When we arrived, there was no acknowledgement. No eye contact. No greeting. My son has been attending SoccerDays from the age of 2 and whenever we entered the hall the coach would acknowledge us and say hello to my son using his name. There was no etiquette in this class. My husband asked a coach a question twice and the coach did not answer. It was not a case of my husband not being understood. My husband was just ignored by the coach. I am an experienced primary school teacher and have worked in education for nearly twenty years. I believe the lesson was unsatisfactory for the following reasons: You have potentially three different age groups in one class: EYFS; KS1 and KS2. Yet there is no differentiation in the lesson. There were three coaches present. Why not split the class into three groups? My four year old son was not able to follow all of the instructions because they were multiple step instructions. And most importantly, the instructions were not clear. One of the coaches asked another coach to clarify because he too was not sure what the instructions were. When the children were not able to follow the instructions the coach seemed frustrated and annoyed. This was when the children were playing as two teams Chelsea and Arsenal. There were four goals and the children were getting the goal numbers and the teams mixed up. One of the coaches did not know which children were on the Arsenal team and which were on the Chelsea team. This shows that the coaches were not all prepared for the lesson and that the explanation was not clear. Also, there were no visual prompts. In teaching, it is also unacceptable to negatively single out any child for a misunderstanding. This leads to my last point that my husband and I did not like the atmosphere of the class. My son was new and the coach did not acknowledge him by name or make eye contact with us as the parents. The coach did not try to build a positive relationship with our son from the start. My son is four years old. Little children need encouragement and praise. SoccerDays was very nurturing. This lesson we attended with We Make Footballers was not. Why advertise the class for four year olds when there is no provision for them? You are just setting them up to fail. Needless to say we will not be returning. We found the whole experience very disappointing and a waste of time for us. I do hope that you will consider my feedback. This was the initial response to my feedback - “Hi there, Thank you for the feedback. I will let the team know.”
