I've been dealing with Jim and his team since 2013 and have only great things to say about everything they do. They are a world-class team in all respects, especially in terms of professionalism, knowledge, fairness, and post-sale service. They are also extremely kind and honest. I bought from them a La Nuova Era Cuadra II espresso machine and a Lelit grinder in 2013 and a Lelit Bianca machine and another Lelit grinder in 2020. The greatest thing about Jim and his team is their post-sale service and advice. They are always there for you for any questions you may have. The impression is that they do this not for business but for the love of coffee. Not only did they advise me against buying certain accessories, but they refused to get paid after I felt that I asked them too many questions (including on weekends) when they recently helped me resolve a machine issue that was completely my fault. A great team and lovely people.
I have been a customer of 1st line for years. Jim is SUPER knowledgeable and has been a proponent and innovator in espresso technologies in America. He helped me twice over the years to fix my machine without having to mail it in. He is very smart to help me diagnose my issues over the phone and his recommendations are great. You want expertise, recommendations, customer service, and great prices, call 1st Line and if you are lucky you will reach Jim. (I am a Doctor, very picky and analytical and can be hard to please - Jim and 1st Line get 5 stars!!!)
Purchased a micro care a leva machine. Worked great for about 600 cups. Then died. The issue is 1st line will not assist in diagnosing the problem or referring any way to fix. So a lot of money for a short lived machine. It is pretty though.To save those reading below. Essentially they say “not their problem”. Which is effectively true. However they are the one company you’ll get referred to if you have an issue and you can see the response below. The. They pepper the response with gratuitous insults. Of course no machine lasts forever (and I’d never expect it to) but most last for a reasonable time commensurate with price.
1st-line is a fantastic company. I've bought several prosumer espresso machines and grinders from them and they've always been great. I've had a few problems with the espresso machines and Java Jim helped me solve the problems quickly. It's so nice to deal with a company where people are experts in their field. 1st-line is the only place I will buy espresso equipment. 10/10.
1st-Line refused to honor their commitment to price match as per advertisement on their site. Their reply, after flatly refusing to match the price, and verbatim, is “Unfortunately, we have very limited stock and we do not know when the next shipment will arrive.” If they refuse to honor their own policies, I don’t think that they have any credibility, whatsoever.
I purchased our espresso machine from 1st-line several years ago and I have been blown away by their customer service. The machine has not had any major issues but things wear out over time and the team at 1st-line has always been helpful in diagnosing the problem and providing solutions: either parts required or sometimes videos of how to replace a part. This has saved me several hundreds of dollars as I was able to fix my problems instead of having to pay someone to fix.
