Well where do I begin. Myself and my partner reserved a new build property that Corum were the dedicated estate agent for. When we initially reserved the property in March 2021 we were told that the property was expected to be completed within 6-8 weeks. It got to the end of May and we had no word or update on the property. We tried multiple times to contact corum for an update and were continually told there were no updates. Repeatedly the estate agent dealing with our case would say they would arrange to email us/contact us however this never happened. We then found out in mid June that the builders for this property had gone bust (through word of mouth) and were not completing the build - AGAIN ZERO COMMUNICATION from the estate agent on this matter. We finally were able to get in contact with Corum after ongoing attempts to be told that our reservation fee (which we had paid to Corum) could not be refunded because the builders had gone into liquidation. Now this is the point that gets me most. We paid a reservation fee of £1000 to reserve the property. This fee was paid from our bank account to Corum’s bank account. When we paid this fee we explicitly asked the estate agent what happens if the build doesn’t complete. They replied to us saying in 20 years of working in estate agents they had never seen that! They then also went on to tell us of course our money would be refunded to us in the case that the house was not completed. Roll forward 4 months from when we paid that fee we are now adamantly told we can not get this fee refunded. This company (particularly the Shawlands branch) have completed disappointed us. At no point in the process were they engaging with us for updates or had even a remote interest in us. They are extremely unprofessional, deceitful and incompetent. I would not recommend them for selling or purchasing a property. We have since bought another house and have dealt with several estate agents in this process all of whom have had timely communication with us and kept us updated at all times. Would recommend choosing another estate agent if considering Corum.
