What an absolute NIGHTMARE experience dealing with this company. If you’re lucky enough to have nothing bad happen on your rental trip, then I’m sure no problem… however if ANYTHING happens, including something as minuscule as a passing by truck throwing a small rock causing a rock chip on the windshield …(which I was unlucky enough to have happen to me while taking my 85 year old parents on a road trip to big bend) ….get ready to be charged an additional $1500 beyond your rental charge!!! Seriously that is EXACTLY what has happened to me. The absolute worst customer service and claims dept they exists as they literally did NOTHING to help me on my claim experience despite advertising “windshield coverage included” on the insurance they force you to purchase but it’s not included as I experienced. Once you take possession of the vehicle you’re sent a email regarding the insurance assuring you that you’re covered and to relax and enjoy your trip…but you can’t even read the terms of the policy because the link provided sends you to a page that errors out. Bottom line is outdoorsy is charging me $1500 for what was a rock chip now 41 days after I returned the van. The insurance is literally USELESS as they NEVER bothered to lift a finger and check to see if the rock chip could be repaired. They simply responded 3 weeks after returning the van saying that per the pictures received 3 weeks later that it could not be repaired…based off pictures that were taken after the owner drive it at minimum taking it in to have it washed (water was all over the pictures and not date stamped). Most likely the owner may have rented it out during that 3 week time period yet they hooked me on this damage as the rock chip had then formed a crack. Being told this, I called the glass replacement company that Outdoorsy claims said they use called Lippert. Lippert then advised me that they do not handle class B van windshields and referred me to two companies in San Antonio area that they refer customers to. I then called clear glass of San Antonio who quoted me $650 for an exact windshield replacement matching the vehicle’s VIN. I gave the van owner this info saying I would pay the $650 for a new windshield replacement and gave him the contact info for clear glass of San Antonio. He advised that he wanted to use the dealership instead, which of course was much higher price at apparently at least $1500. how ridiculous is that!? Why should I have to pay for a dealership windshield when the the windshield from the glass shop was an exact match for the van!? The windshield on the van was already 2 years old and had marks all over it. I spent several hours calling outdoorsy trying to get help but they just refer you to their claims dept who totally blows you off! When you call claims they never answer the phone. They just send all calls to a voicemail and they never call you back. Beyond horrible service. The worst thing of all is that if I was not forced to purchase their USELESS insurance with a $1500 deductible, my own personal insurance would have covered me primary however because other insurance was in place my personal insurance policy then only becomes secondary. Thus I was forced to deal with this NIGHTMARE experience. This is a HORRIBLE COMPANY to deal with!!! Save yourself a ton of time and anxiety and quite literally robbery out of your PayPal account apparently also fail to tell you that your paypal payment is “reoccurring” which I was totally unaware of as I never authorized that. Save yourself from a nightmare and DO NOT use this company!
