Catch up lunch with another couple and the Gull was convieniently 1/2 way between us and the website looked good menu and appeared to be a very busy place so food must be good - yes ?. Inside was very well laid out and not what I expected from the roadside. Welcoming friendly staff. Starters good But my and my wife's mains were not so good. She had the gourmet fish basket but without the gourmet. The smoked haddock bon bons had a hint of chlorine smell so past its best. Not a disaster as the whitebait and prawns were ok but still not gourmet quality. Mine however was a disaster. I had the pigs plate and the pork belly and ham hock risoles were probably a bit too dried out before being deep fried and they were inedible. The pan fried pork fillet was dry and tough and even difficult to cut. The BBQ sauce meant for the pork belly was with a strong vinegar and made the risoles 10 times worse in flavour. Minor points were no apple sauce as per menu and cajun chips were just ordinary chips without any seasoning. My plate obviously had very little eaten from it and I told our server that it was very poor quality. She very kindly gave us a 10% discount on our two dishes so £1.80 off each of the two dishes. That still ended up being a £98 bill. Normally I would have demanded the full cost of my dish but I know how difficult it is for the trade during these times. I just accepted it and will not revisit. If this is the normal pigs plate then I am sure many more will not revisit. Difficult times is no excuse for poor quality.Update : looks like management blocked me from their FB pages because I gave a negative review. I guess the manager knew they gave a terrible dish and had no defence. Dropped my 2 * rating to 1 because of that.
