I visited the Gull on 9/2/19 with my Mum and her two friends for a birthday. I had booked this visit via telephone and spoke to a lovely gentleman called Tom. Our Reservation was booked for 7pm however we decided to arrive earlier for some drinks at the bar. After being within the establishment for a short while The Gull experienced a power cut. This however wasn't an issue for our group, we understand in life that things like this happen.I have noticed a few comments from other diners that evening whom have used this as an opportunity to moan, however haven't commented on cleanliness, staff, food, drinks, toilets etc. I feel these reviews shouldn't be used as a representation on the Gull. Having dined here on various occasions I can honestly say that this one off situation was resolved quickly and without fault. Now onto a review of the establishment and not the unexpected situation that occurred. Upon arrival we were greeted by staff not only at the bar but also waitresses. All of which were friendly and well dressed. We were seated by Rachel whom let us know our table was ready early. We were seated in the old area at table 9. This area is one of my favourite parts of the building, full of character and charm. Our drinks order was taken and brought to us very quickly, presented in beautiful glasses with garnishes and ice. ( All of the glassware had clearly been polished and added to the service )Our party had ordered a selection from the menu and specials board ( we read about the chefs Saturday board online and thought we would try this ). Due to the power cut we had to wait a little longer for food, however the manager Tom ( who I previously booked with ) kept our drinks flowing and ensured we were comfortable and happy (despite the circumstances). Once the food arrived we were greeted with our food plated in a lovely way. I had the Polenta Terrine priced at £10.95 with a side of Chunky Chips. This dish was full of flavour, an item that was exceptionally delicious was the Crispy Kale. This could be served on its own in a bowl as it was extremely moorish. The others in my party could not stop talking about how good their food was and were swapping mouthfuls for each other to try. Having seen someone else have a desert delivered we couldn't pass up on this opportunity to try them for ourselves. These came out to us quickly and again presented in an exceptional way. They are not to be passed up on, you can tell that they are handmade in house. Its these touches that make it a little more enjoyable. Overall the food was delightful, I can't wait to return again to try other mains and desserts. One person in our party booked a table before we left for a future visit. STAFF: Smartly dressed, clean in presentation and polite. Its rare that you visit an establishment with enthusiastic staff whom are well dressed and are quick at problem solving. DECOR: The Gull's renovations are delightful, quirky and full of hidden gems. The Well in the floor, the old window, Old Church pews and many fires.TOILETS: The ladies toilets were amazing, clean with a beautiful aesthetic to them. CLEANLINESS: The Gull is extremely clean with no area missed, our glasses and napkins were cleared quickly with the touch of using a tray every time.
