I would use these products with caution. I started using calm k-9 with my giant breed puppy who struggles with over excitement. I think they probably did help but at a huge expense (about £80 per month due to her weight). I gave it to her in the morning and she was more manageable and had better focus which helped us to catch up on training and successfully implement a behavioural programme with the help of an experienced behaviouralist. However it was very obvious that she was noticeably more energetic in the evenings and we suspected the calming effect was not lasting all day. What I did not realise is that the calming effect wasn’t just wearing off but I believe she was experiencing some withdrawal side effects in the evenings making her behaviour worse. After 6 months of spending a fortune on this product we decided to stop buying it and assess the changes to her behaviour and possibly try an alternative cheaper product if she became unmanageable again. I went through 3 days of absolute hell, she was worse than I have ever known her to be, couldn’t sleep, high energy, terrible behaviour and completely out of control. I rode it out as I suspected she might be going through some kind of drug withdrawal symptoms. My suspicions were correct, after 3 days of her being a nightmare she is a completely new dog, absolutely perfect, calm, happy and perfectly behaved. Her behaviour is now significantly better than it was whilst she was on this product and I strongly believe the product contains something which is addictive to dogs so that when you stop using it they act up which then reinforces the idea that you need to keep using it. It is possible that this is a unique case due to her size (although I was giving the correct dose for her weight), but I would advise anyone using this product to ensure they are using it alongside a good training programme and be aware that their dog might be experiencing withdrawal symptoms if they are acting up before their dose or on days you do not give it to them. I am very sad to realise that I have been putting my dog through months of withdrawal symptoms every evening when her morning dose started to wear off and so glad that I stuck it out and waited a few days before immediately buying more when she immediately started acting up after we stopped giving it to her. Honestly she is a perfect dog now we are not giving it to her. We went through months of her being completely uncontrollable every evening completely unnecessarily. I have no idea what she must have been going through every evening - it makes me very sad that I was tricked for so long and put her through this. Please beware of potential withdrawal symptoms and consider if your dog is also showing potential signs of withdrawal between doses. Also it’s almost impossible to cancel the subscription, I’ve had to resort to moving money out of my bank account every Thursday as they are endlessly charging me on a weekly basis and I found the only way to stop this is to make sure the payment gets declined.Edit: I promise you I have got the right company and you have been charging me on a weekly basis. I have the transactions on my bank statement to prove it. Cancelling a subscription is easy, but not when it has already been cancelled and you continue to charge someone?! Was it really necessary to make an example of your Grandma. Your response is rude and unnecessary, I have given an honest account of my experience using your product. If you actually care about dogs you would be interested in understanding why my dog reacted in the way she did when I stopped giving her calm-k9 rather than attempting to belittle my experience and replying in such a condescending way.
