I traveled to Florida with my family and booked a rental car online through Expedia. The listing stated this was an airport pickup, but upon arrival we were placed on a shuttle and driven to a remote off-site location about 10 minutes from the airport.
Once we arrived at the rental office, we were informed—for the first time—that my insurance was not accepted, despite having over $1 million in liability coverage. At that point, with my family stranded and no practical way back to the airport, I was forced to pay an additional $480 on top of the quoted rental price, plus a $200 deposit that I may not even get back.
This is a classic bait-and-switch: you’re lured in with one price online, then the terms and cost are changed once you’re on site with no realistic alternative except to pay.
The final cost was over $700 for a 4–5 year old Toyota RAV4, which is completely unreasonable. This was a terrible experience, highly misleading, and unacceptable business practice.
I would never recommend this rental car company, and I strongly advise others not to book a car through them or through Expedia if this is the type of vendor they support.
