Just had another major issue witb Agoda’s so called Free Cancellation Policy which is utter rubbish and false. Made a free cancellation booking for a hotel on the 11/11/25 and had until 12/12 to cancel for free. Booking was on book now pay later meaning that Agoda will process the payment to the hotel after the expiration of the free cancellation date which is on 12/12 but was surprised when notification of payment was received from bank that payment was made on the same day 11/11/25 and followed up by an email invoice from Agoda stating that payment has been received/paid. Tried to cancel booking under the free cancellation policy on the 16/11/25 but was then informed by Agoda customer service that this was not possible as since payment was made, the booking was reverted to follow hotels cancellation policy which stated that any cancellation is subjected to a 96% cancellation charge! And can only be refunded if the hotel operator “approved” the waiver!! Legally by right, in the case of Free Cancellation bookings, any payments can only be effected after the expiry of the free cancellation dates and not before. I then brought this up with Agoda and was instead asked for prove that my booking was eligible for free cancellation (screenshots) of booking which i didn’t have but a kind customer service rep helped by going thru booking history in their system and sent to me. Using this I further chatted with Agoda customer service as hotel declined my first request for waiver. Know how Agoda reps wear you down in their chats? They take their time in answering you and when they are stuck, they either disclaim responsibility for any issue and blame it on the customer and or push the burden of proof to their customers and the best is they will change reps midway thru chats when they can’t logically answer you and then ask you all the same questions that were asked before previously. After a while of changing 4 to 5 different reps over a course of chats and repeating yourself and your questions, it can get awfully frustrating. My issue has not been resolved yet as Agoda has just, it seems, sent another waiver request to the hotel to “approve” but which I am certain the hotel will decline again. Anyway if the hotel does decline, I think I’ll just give the hotel the worst review I can make up lol. So all of you out there who reads this, do always take lots of screenshots of the bullshit Agoda free cancellation policy and be careful. Quick update - Agoda showed that my free cancellation date was 12/12/24 (note year) and not 12/12/25 so that’s why I can’t get free cancellation. However does anyone logically think that a free cancellation year can precede a booking year? Cancellation period before even the booking is made!! Booking made 11/11/25. Well Agoda it seems does as it won’t admit to this, their system glitch. Anyway you all be careful when dealing with this deceitful, unethical company ya.
