We took out extra excess coverage for car hire through Allianz, and were glad we had when a mysterious scratch appeared on our hire car. As directed, Europcar took the excess off our credit card deposit. We immediately contacted Allianz to make good on our insurance, as we were down over £500 by this point (and racking up interest on a credit card!)We first placed the claim in August and it has been really really challenging to communicate with someone who can help us. It turns out that the insurance is through the French arm of Allianz, and we have really struggled to speak to a claim handler. We have sent several emails, and received responses asking for things we already submitted. It has been several weeks now and we do not seem to be making any progress with the claim, despite having provided all the documents requested. Would not recommend extra cover with Allianz through gotrentals.com. We took out the cover so it would give us peace of mind, and because the process for claims looked easy. This has not been the case. I expected more professional service from a multinational insurance giant and I would really really like to speak to someone who can help me to organise my refund.
