My experience with the service has been outstanding from start to finish. The team was incredibly responsive, transparent, and easy to coordinate with, making the entire process feel smooth and stress-free. They quickly grasped what I needed and assisted me in securing a fantastic apartment in the East Village that perfectly suited my requirements; the apartment is well-maintained, comfortable, and conveniently located near all the places I wanted to be. The move-in process was seamless, all of my inquiries were addressed promptly, and I consistently felt supported and informed throughout the entire search. I would recommend this service to anyone seeking reliable housing assistance.
I’ve lived in two different Alohause rooms this year, and I’m about to rent another. The staff and agents are super easy to communicate with, and have always worked with me to find a great room that works for my situation.Additionally, they have so many different rooms across the city to choose from. I’ve also never had a negative roommate experience while living with other alohausers. Everyone has been so cool and respectful. I highly recommend their rooms at 1600 Broadway, there’s a variety of different rooms for various price ranges and the building staff is so kind and helpful.
Huge thanks to Emil — thanks to him, I found my apartment in Manhattan in less than a week. It's right in the neighborhood I was looking for, and the place is really well set up. I wanted to leave this review because I honestly don’t understand the negative ones — every time there’s an issue, they respond within the hour and take care of everything. Thanks again, Emil — I absolutely recommend him 100%!
Just moved into an apartment in New York, and had a very pain free process. My room was clean and in good condition. My bed was made and a fresh towel was left for my arrival. I have aircondition in my room, my bedroom door can be looked from the inside and the outside, which is nice seeing as I don’t know my roommates yet. The rent is as good as expected for a New York apartment. The building is in good condition as well. I was assisted by Emil Bjellebø in the search for an apartment and he was of great help. He answered all of my questions and hypothetical situations, and gave me great options based on my conditions. He was very helpful throughout the whole process. I recommend talking to him if you are looking for a room/apartment!
This is the worst place I have EVER lived. DO NOT LIVE HERE IT IS A SCAM!!! Lived in one of their buildings in New York for the summer, the process for actually getting the apartment was simple and easy and I thought I had found a great place to live. I was, however, sussed out by a couple things throughout the setup process. For one, they wanted to charge us $75 to tour the apartment in person (which is illegal in NYC) and they also charged us $500 each to 'secure the apartment' (just another cash grab) - it's also not legal to charge more than $20 for an application fee under NY state law. As soon as I moved in, things continued to get worse. I had found that the hot water did not work. This was fixed, but then it happened again, 6 times over the summer (even though we were paying an extra fee for utilities). Each time that it happened, Alohause would ignore our emails for a couple days and then say they are trying their best but it is technically "building management's responsibility". However, we would ask for the building management's contact so that we could contact them directly and they refused to do so, and one of the workers came in once and admitted that alohause did not believe that the hot water wasn't working which is why it was not being fixed immediately. The last time that it happened it was out for 7 days, we emailed them multiple times everyday and it was not fixed until building management themselves contacted us directly. On top of this, there were 2 instances where carbon monoxide was detected in our building - both times the alarm went off at 4am and we had to call 911 for the fire department to come. The firefighter said that they have been coming to this property for ~8 years for the same issue, so it is quite baffling that alohause is continuing to rent out 3 units in this building when its clearly not safe to live there. Finally, while living there, there were ALWAYS people sitting or even sleeping on the front door step. all in all, DO NOT LIVE HERE - I wish I had saw more reviews on this company before I decided to rent with them because it is very clearly a scam
I stayed with Alohause starting in June and spent the summer with them. Overall, my experience was very positive. The apartment was as shown in the listing, clean, comfortable, and in a great location. At one point there was a small issue with the air conditioning, but the team handled it quickly and professionally. Communication was always clear and responsive, which made everything much easier throughout my stay.I’d recommend Alohause to anyone looking for a reliable and well-managed place to stay in the city.
I was looking for an apartment in NYC for two months and found one very easily with Alohause. To be honest, there was a moment when I thought it might be a scam because, after transferring the money, I did not hear back from them for a long time. I wanted my check-in information, but despite several emails and calls, I did not receive it. It was unsettling. However, I eventually received the information and they put me in touch with the person who was going to check me in. She also took some time to respond, but she did eventually. When I arrived, the key to my apartment was in a key safe outside the building, and I was able to check in without any problems. The room was clean and looked exactly like the pictures (I was in Room 1002 in the apartment on the Upper East Side). The apartment was in good condition, and I had nice roommates. The bed was very comfortable and I had four big pillows, which helped me sleep very well. You could tell that they had put some effort in. Thanks to Alohause I had a wonderful time in NY. I also got my deposit back. It took about two months, but I got it back. So, all in all...There is room for improvement in terms of response time, but I would definitely use their service again.
I had several issues during my five-month stay with Alohause, although the booking process was easy and the Upper East Side location was great—close to shops, cafes, and restaurants. Upon arrival, I was given a different apartment than the one I booked, and Alohause initially denied the mistake. The apartment was in poor condition, with cleanliness issues, centipedes getting in through cracks, and unsafe electrical outlets.During the winter, the building had no hot water for three weeks, and the dishwasher was broken for just as long. Despite repeated requests, Alohause was slow to respond and offered no real help. We eventually had to contact the building owner ourselves. Extra fees for cleaning and utilities were high considering the lack of service, and I didn’t receive my deposit refund on time.
