I created a post on Facebook, not on my author page, not on my book page but on my personal page asking my friends if any of them would be interested in editing my latest book in exchange for a free paperback copy. I did not contact this company, tag them in the post, I don't follow them on social media, and I have never had any dealing with them before. Out of the blue I get an email to my WORK email address, not the email address associated with my books, my author profiles, my website, or even my Facebook account but my WORK email address offering editing services for my book (for a fee of course). I immediately responded and asked "How did you get this email address?" The company then replied back claiming that they got the email address FROM THE FACEBOOK POST which was clearly a lie. I replied back and called them out on that and pointed out that the email address wasn't associated with my Facebook or my books in any way. Even the name on my work email address (which is my maiden name) is different from the name on my Facebook page (my married name) and the name on my books (my pen name). Only after calling them on this they admitted that they'd skip-traced my information to send UNSOLICITED CONTACT to an email address that is in no way associated with my books. THEN had the audacity to send a follow up again today asking me if I had any "updates" for them. This is NOT how you run a business. It's shady, underhanded, and completely invasive.
