My 83 year old nan took her 3 year old rescue staffy to the BOLTON branch because he had no bladder control, they took him in and said he will have to stay over night, have x rays and bloods taken ... fair enough. They billed her £280, the results showed nothing she was sent on her way and told the dog needed to loose weight. A week later hes still the same so he was taken back ... the same tests was done again ... this time they said “we are thinking is cushions disease “ and she was sent on her way.. again no treatment or medication. This time £320 down. Fast forward a week later and hes still the same, she phones the vets and asks what can she do, what is the next steps. The reception said she will speak to the vets and ring her back. She rings my nan back and says “we need to do more tests. Another round of bloods. Scans and wee samples. Another £320. My nan said no. Hes not going. Youve done these tests twice already and i cant afford to keep doing this when im on pension.... fast forward a week later and my nan gets a BAILIFF letter through the door demanding £320 for a vets appointment that shes not paid .. my nana phoned the vets very upset and they advised “we are sorry we can see he didnt attend there is no fee to pay” my nan questioned “well how do you know how much my bill would have cost ? How are yoh estimating peoples bills and then frightening the life out of them with the bailiffs!!” The receptionist response was “ your upsetting me, im going to hang up” ... My nan has paid out a lot of money and still none the wiser, the dog is still not right and has been treated very poorly. I feel this vets have seen a older vulnerable lady and decided to rip her off. And from personal experience seen as this vets is a “charity” why does it cost a lot more than a standard vets and the medications are even more expensive, you can walk up the road and buy the same creams/lotions/ flea/ worming and even some medications from pets at home for a third of the price.
