Unreliable, Inefficient, Incompetent and Inconsistent Post Service

I f I could give a score lower than 1 star for this service I would have no hesitation in doing so. An Post is the most unreliable, inefficient and incompetent postal service.I posted a small package to the U.S on Monday 06/10/2024. I paid €17 for Express Post. The item was being sent for repair, to the U.S to be returned to Ireland. I supplied all the requested information at the P.O. A receipt + Tracking No.was issued. I would have expected the item to be delivered to the US address in approximately 10 working days as I have previously used the service to send items to the same destination. Tracking 07/10/2025, the status stated the item was received at the P.O. Tracking 0810/2025 no further information available. I tried to call Customer Service without success. I used the An Post WhatsApp service on 09/10/2025. A message was sent at 08.32am I had not received a response by 13.40. Another request was sent, I finally received a response at 13.55pm informing me the item was delayed in the Mail Centre due to high volumes of mail in network.Tracking 10/10/2025 the status showed no further progress. Message via WhatsApp at 07.56 am, no reply by 15.24pm I called Customer Service, after 16mins on hold I spoke with an agent, she was not able to provide any further information but stated she would escalate the issue with the Mail Centre, stating that they are very busy, contact me if any further updates. She did offer an apology on behalf of A Post. No update received.Message via WhatsApp at 15.25 pm receiving a response at 15.27. The recipients address + my contact details were requested. Response was at 16.00 informing me that the item will be returned to me as the recipients email and phone no were missing. I was not asked to provide this information when I mailed the item, if requested I would have no problem supplying it.I requested confirmation when the item would be returned to me, the date could not be confirmed. I suggested traveling from Cork to Dublin to collect it myself, I was informed it is not available for collection I was not told the truth when I submitted my query on the 08/10/2025. It took a week to get this information, which I would never have received without constant tracking of the package and messaging which needless to say is time consuming and frustrating. I paid for an Express Postal service, if A Post cannot meet the demands of such a service why do they continue to offer such a service to customers. Beware of A nPost, this service is unreliable, delivery of goods is not guaranteed despite the customer paying exorbitant fees. Customer service is very unsatisfactory, it’s extremely difficult to make contact, very slow responses which can be dismissive and incorrect. To put it in context “A Service Not Fit For Purpose”I don’t know when the package will be returned to me. An Post refused to allow me collect my package which I urgently require to make alternative arrangements to have it delivered to the U.SA Post cannot be trusted. I certainly cannot or will not recommend their postal service. Contact details not sharedUpdateResponse received via email I received an apology regarding the difficulties I experienced with An Post, along with a link to updated guidelines for sending mail to the U.S. However, I must emphasize that it is not the customer’s responsibility to educate P.O. staff on the relevant rules or terms and conditions for international deliveries. At no point during the mailing process was I asked for an email address or phone number of the recipient.It’s clear that the staff have not been adequately trained to handle these procedures. Once again, I’ve been told the package will be returned to me in “a few days.” Update 20/10/26Package still not returned to meUpdate 21/10/2025 Tracking status - Package is being sent Internationally.
