I had a very disappointing experience with ASFINAG. On my way from Vienna Airport, an official diversion in Fischamend forced me directly onto the motorway. At the entrance I immediately realized that a vignette was required – but there was no way to stop or turn around safely, as cars were behind me.I did exactly what a responsible driver should do: I continued safely and purchased a vignette at the first available petrol station (OMV Raststation Göttlesbrunn). This was only three minutes after the alleged violation was recorded. Three minutes! That includes finding parking and queuing inside the station.Despite this, ASFINAG still issued a fine and completely ignored the circumstances. When I appealed, their reply showed zero empathy and simply repeated “rules are rules”. They offered no explanation of what a driver should realistically do in such a situation. Am I expected to reverse on a motorway entrance and cause a traffic accident, just to avoid a fine? This rigid and robotic approach punishes responsible behavior and leaves a very negative impression for visitors. I respect the laws, but fair treatment and common sense should also matter.Tourists beware: even if you act immediately and in good faith, ASFINAG will not care.
