I was only 1 week as an Au Pair in the United States because the LCC that assigned me wrote a letter saying that I was not suitable to take care of children because I had psychological problems, they never did an evaluation to determine if this was true, they just made the decision to cancel my exchange without giving me an exact explanation of the situation, they took me out of my hots family's house with lies, saying that they gave me a ticket to Colombia so that I could visit my family for a week and that I would return, but in the end it was never thus, they were dishonest and did not make sure that my mental health was good or bad with a professional who attested to it.

It all depends of the family you choose to go with. My LCC in California, Barbara didn’t help at all and she tried to screw me. I never knew why she had that hate towards most of the girls. But I’m very thankful that I could extend to another state and the people, my host family and LCC were incredible. At least they made me feel I can count on them no matter the comments with other intentions from CA.

I barely recieved any help if needed

I barely recieved any help if needed. My first community counselor didn't really care about my issue with my host family and told me to solve it myself. When I flew to my 1st and 2nd host family I got a flight including a seat. On my way to my home country I suddenly got told they don't book seats for you. Some workers respond to emails late and rarely care about your issue. I had an issue with my flight back and recieved an email asking if I still need help when I was already back in my home country and solved it myself.

Not as promised

No enough support for the au pair, specially during the pandemic. The payment is not meeting the minimum per hour by state and some families excuse their wrong behavior behind "you are leaving in my house and I'm paying you". The whole program is promoted as the best exchange experience when lots of au pair are not even able to enjoy their free time because of very strict families that not respect boundaries or people.**I worked as an au pair in 2019-2021
