Overall I was impressed with Avant Homes regarding my new build, but there were a few frustrations along the way. This was for Seely Fields.
First, the good:
- The build quality was of a very good standard. Our purchase completed before Christmas, and our first round of snagging only revealed a few issues that need fixing, such as the thermostat being wired incorrectly (Oops!).
- Ruby was absolutely fantastic at keeping me and my partner in the loop, and did everything in her power to push things through to get us in the house for a December completion. If it was her we’d dealt with from the start, this would likely be a 5-star review and she should be commended for that.
Now onto the negatives:
- It was very difficult to get answers to questions we sent to our original Sales advisor. I had at one point sent a list of questions about the plot I wanted answering before me and my partner decided to reserve. These questions were never answered and instead all focus was just on when me and my partner could reserve. This left a bad taste in my mouth and did make me consider if we should even reserve.
- Linked to the above, we were told our rear garden would be turfed when we were confirming our optional extras. However when we moved into the plot, it was not. When discussing this with Ruby she showed us the optional extras we had signed which did not include the turf. Obviously we should have checked carefully and we can’t really do anything about it, but we know it was discussed and asked for, and should have been on the form.
So all in all, it was not an unpleasant journey but there is room for improvement in certain aspects. Hopefully when we report in our snags, they are fixed quickly and I won’t need to update my review!
