RENTED AVIS IN STUTTGART GERMANY through AUTO EUROPEAVIS was easy to deal with overall, however when I picked up the car and asked to walk around it with the sales associate, he said not to worry because all the damage was documented on the computer but the computer was down at the moment. I was hesitant and told him so and that I had had problems with other car rental companies trying to rip me off. He said to not worry. So I brought it back on the appointed day and he was there but there was another man checking the car and he walked around the car and pointed to a miniscule dent and asked me about it. He didn't speak any English. I told him we did not dent it and I did not know if it was there before. He had an unproffesional manner and started grinning and nodding his head. I took it as he was implying that I dented the car and of course I would say I didn't because all customers say that. He kept pointing at it and pointing at me. I went inside and reminded the original sales person that he declined to walk around the car with me in the beginning. After looking in his computer and looking up at me, he said, "don't worry, it's all ok" and that was it. What if the original salesperson wasn't there that day or if he didn't remember his interaction with me the first day? I find this very unprofessional and I don't remember car rental companies holding renters responsible for every dent and scratch when I used to rent cars before. That's what insurance is for. Nowadays every rental company except for a few try to get you for every scratch OR they try to sell you EXTRA insurance from the beginning. The car rental industry needs to be regulated! They are allowing scam companies and scam practices to take over a valuable service.
