We arrived 5 weeks ago at Boston Logan Airport for a prebooked 3 weeks Avis car rental. Avis had failed to advised us on how to get to the car collection point. There was a complementary phone booth for car-rental companies at arrivals. However, after dialling the stated short-code for Avis, a message told us that there was nobody at Avis’s offices to take our call. We placed 4 further calls over the next 20 minutes, only to receive the same answer on all 4 occasions. Finally we decided to use Google Maps in order to walk (with heavy luggage) to the car collection point, which was some 25 minutes away.On arrival at the car collection point we asked 3 Avis staff members (who had been attending a single, lone single customer!) why nobody had answered our call. Not only were they unaware of the car-rental phone booth at the airport, but one staff member started laughing, saying we must have dialled the wrong number. It took them 10 minutes to find our booking, they then wanted to charge us more than 1800 USD for a rental that we already had paid for online. For some reason, the car we had booked was unavailable, so after a delay of 2 hours we were provided with an “upgrade” and set off for Maine … we only got 500 yards before a dashboard message told us that our “upgrade” needed an oil change ... which meant returning to the “helpful” Avis staff for a car that actually could be rented without problems … only to be told by a different staff member that there were plenty of cars available of the type we had booked …Now, after a total delay of 3 hours, we were finally provided with the car we had booked, changed over our luggage from the faulty car, and asked the Avis garage staff member (Lady “A”) how we could open the gas tank flap … she didn’t know, so she looked for a corresponding lever in the car, she couldn’t find it, so she decided to get us a different car … YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS! An Avis garage staff member does not know how to access the gas tank of an Avis rental car … REALLY?As Lady “A” rushed off, we decided to asked another close-by Avis staff member (Lady “B”) if she knew how to open the gas tank flap … Oh no, what had we done??? Lady “A” overheard us asking Lady “B”, and she didn’t like it at all!!! She started berating us, saying that Lady “B” wouldn’t know either how to access the gas tank. After Lady “A” had stomped off in a huffy to get rental car #3 for us, Lady “B” started to look for the gas tank flap … and presto, after 5 minutes she found it, clearly putting Lady “A” in her miserable little place! After 3.5 hours of various delays, we finally left Avis with a car that turned out to be exactly what we had wanted. Lady “B” had been very welcoming, however Lady “A” and all the other Avis staff members we had met on this occasion appeared to be in the wrong employment. They seemed not willing to serve customers, instead they were brash & rude, or just uninterested, or a mixture of all 3.During this rental, the car could not have been better, whilst most Avis staff members wet had met could not have been any worse!
