I think the lessons are a good blend of useful content, but the lessons on local dialects are of no use to me but only because I have no plans to travel and only want to read books in German.I think that the gold standard of learning a new language would be to take a popular book already in two languages and place the language being learnt as a superscript above the equivalent phrases in the learner's mother tongue. It is said the every time you read a new book you learn about 400 to 600 words. This is because all the new words are in context( if a subject is sitting on a dreh Stuhl in a Buro then that must be some kind of chair!!!
