Review Time
Babbel offers many opportunities to learn a language (also on different platforms). The topics are taken from everyday life.
What bothers me about the beginner's Italian course is that the texts are often spoken too quickly and unclearly. This leads to incorrect answers or takes more time, as you have to repeat them several times.
Why am I not able find out the cost and the options, if their are options other than your $239.00 lifetime option which appears as a banner? I don't want to commit to anything for a year. I went to your web site and you posed a lot of questions but provided no way to obtain answers. You did, however, require a login.

Really great now I've discovered I can do lessons again - as things get more complicated that is so helpful. Really enjoying learning Italian with Babbel. My only slight criticism would be that some screens click on to the next one too quickly - I like to repeat the phrases to get them stuck in my head.
I Used Babbel to try and learn Italian. The lessons provided phrases and words that I would rarely use in conversation. I keep working the lessons and after a month decided to try another aplication called Pimsleur. Immediately the lessons started out with funtional words, phrases and sentences I would use in every day speaking and was much easier to follow than Babbel. I wrote Babbel customer service, as they have no phone support, (Pimsleur does), and Babble did respond quickly, cancelling my auto renewal, as I requested, so I wasn't charged for another year. (My 20 day refund period had run out). I have tried running both programs side-by-side and for me Pimsleur is the way to go. I bought the Premium package of Pimsleur and would recommend calling them to get a special offer for it.
I want to learn a new language.Babbel pricing model is highly intransparent and a mess. Why are there so many discounts for lifetime but no monthly sub? Just a 4”3 month sub paying monthly? This businesses model is so bad! Dont get me started on their website, it looks more of an ad instead of information what you buy.
The interface is great and easy to learn. I have a lifetime subscription and have had it for over seven years. I went to Russia and used what I learned with fair success. BUT don't jump at the lifetime subscription. Approximately every three months I stop getting daily words for review. Babbel tells me this is because I need to complete NEW lessons (after seven years). They regret this but blame the algorithm THEY wrote and THEY use. At no time when considering my purchase did they share my subscription would be limited and conditional. As a result my skills have atrophied. Buyer beware.
I think the lessons are a good blend of useful content, but the lessons on local dialects are of no use to me but only because I have no plans to travel and only want to read books in German.I think that the gold standard of learning a new language would be to take a popular book already in two languages and place the language being learnt as a superscript above the equivalent phrases in the learner's mother tongue. It is said the every time you read a new book you learn about 400 to 600 words. This is because all the new words are in context( if a subject is sitting on a dreh Stuhl in a Buro then that must be some kind of chair!!!
