Where to begin! I've been cooking curries from meal kits for longer than I care to remember, and am always looking for something new to try. So when I spotted Bang's "mild, kid friendly korma" I thought I'd give it a whirl.
Starting by frying a slurry of dried onions and water was odd, but when I was told to make it richer by adding tomatoes I got a bit concerned. Tomatoes? In a korma? But it definitely needed them, as there's only 150ml of liquid in a serving for four people otherwise.
But then came actually eating it. This was a curry, but not in any way a korma. There are no nuts of any kind in the ingredients, for one. And for another I'd just added tomatoes. But the heat! This was one of the spiciest curry kits I'd ever encountered. Mild?! Not in a million years.
I'm sure it's a palatable curry if a spicy, tomato-based dish is what you're after. But it is verging on breaching the trade description act to call this mild, or a korma - it is absolutely neither of those things.
