If I could give Bank Austria less than one star, I would. After the introduction of the payee‑verification system in October 2025, I attempted to make a bank transfer using biometric verification. I entered all the required details, which were confirmed without issue, and then tried to proceed with the transfer. At that point, the system logged me out, claiming that my biometric data did not exist. This was particularly surprising, as I had been using biometric login for a long time without any problems. As it happened on a Friday, I called the hotline—only to wait for an hour before they simply closed it.On Monday, I spent two hours on the hotline, only for my call to be terminated exactly at the two‑hour mark. The same thing happened repeatedly over the next few days—hours upon hours wasted with no resolution. I also contacted support in writing, but my messages were ignored, and I was treated as little more than a nuisance to this supposedly “great” institution. I then escalated the matter to the Bank Austria Ombudsman—also ignored. Only after contacting the Bankenverband Ombudsman did Bank Austria finally respond. It is astonishing that it took more than two weeks for me to regain access to my own account. Imagine if someone had actually been stealing my money during that time.I wish the story ended there, but it didn’t. After this entire ordeal, all I wanted was to close my account. Can you imagine that Bank Austria was late with the contractual account closure because they “had too many enquiries to deal with”? They kept my account open for several days after New Year’s just to charge me for the next quarter. When I pointed out that they were missing their own deadlines, they merely cited a high volume of enquiries. I genuinely have no words left to describe the lack of professionalism. Interns at my institution would handle matters more competently. They are a joke of an institution, and it is genuinely shameful that they are considered too big to fail, effectively shielded from the consequences that any other company would face for such appalling service.
