The worst bank ever. I live outside Europe and needed to change my phone number. This bank refused and claimed I'd have to fly 20,000 km to do it. No passport, no name, no date of birth – not even my online banking login details work with this bank. An absolute disaster. I can't access my money, but they're still collecting their fees. They must be living in the 18th century. Some of their employees don't speak English and simply hung up on me. Stay away if you care for your own money because this bank does not!

If I could give Bank Austria less than one star, I would. After the introduction of the payee‑verification system in October 2025, I attempted to make a bank transfer using biometric verification. I entered all the required details, which were confirmed without issue, and then tried to proceed with the transfer. At that point, the system logged me out, claiming that my biometric data did not exist. This was particularly surprising, as I had been using biometric login for a long time without any problems. As it happened on a Friday, I called the hotline—only to wait for an hour before they simply closed it.On Monday, I spent two hours on the hotline, only for my call to be terminated exactly at the two‑hour mark. The same thing happened repeatedly over the next few days—hours upon hours wasted with no resolution. I also contacted support in writing, but my messages were ignored, and I was treated as little more than a nuisance to this supposedly “great” institution. I then escalated the matter to the Bank Austria Ombudsman—also ignored. Only after contacting the Bankenverband Ombudsman did Bank Austria finally respond. It is astonishing that it took more than two weeks for me to regain access to my own account. Imagine if someone had actually been stealing my money during that time.I wish the story ended there, but it didn’t. After this entire ordeal, all I wanted was to close my account. Can you imagine that Bank Austria was late with the contractual account closure because they “had too many enquiries to deal with”? They kept my account open for several days after New Year’s just to charge me for the next quarter. When I pointed out that they were missing their own deadlines, they merely cited a high volume of enquiries. I genuinely have no words left to describe the lack of professionalism. Interns at my institution would handle matters more competently. They are a joke of an institution, and it is genuinely shameful that they are considered too big to fail, effectively shielded from the consequences that any other company would face for such appalling service.
Not only did I have to wait for an hour, but when my turn finally came and I asked the bank employee several questions, he answered a few of them and then abruptly stated that he didn’t know anything else and that I should go to the other desk if I had further inquiries. When I went to the other desk, I still needed clarification on something and asked another question, but the employee there was also rude and arrogant, just like the first one.
Unfortunately, this bank really does not value customers and does its best to avoid them. I wish there was a rating that was negative, as 1 one out of 5 is a true complement for them. They have developed a system of customer service that really attempts to block any direct contact with the bank. The telephone system is a pathetic attempt at providing service and usually results in wasted time of not minutes, but sometimes hours only to be thwarted by a hang up call because the dysfunctional AI agent is simply a budget product that will only result in wasted minutes and telephone charge. The reviews already found will confirm what I said. My advice, please stay clear of this bank in Austria.
Utter shi1t customer service. They offer an account and a website in German and English but you call them and the robot only does German? This is 2025, I'll try a friendlier bank. The robot is thick, give me a human. If it's German only then say so when I open the account!!
Useless in terms of customer service and customer experience. The fact I'm not able to receive information about my account because of the phone number I'm calling from is laughable (other banks have figured it out). Your account is blocked? We are not gonna tell you why or send information the bank app unless you call 3 times. Want to contact us? Send us a message, but we are not gonna respond.
