A couple of weeks ago, my family (a group of 5) had a flight home from El Prat Airport, Terminal 1 in Barcelona. We arrived a bit late, but airport staff assured us we could still make the flight. However, at the security checkpoint, we encountered extremely unprofessional and rude behavior. One employee, in particular, was yelling at us simply because we didn’t speak Spanish. He sarcastically told us we should “go to America with our English” and refused to help us when we asked for assistance or for someone who could speak English. Instead of helping, he laughed at us and clearly made no effort to speed up the process—in fact, it felt like he was intentionally trying to delay us. His colleagues behaved similarly.Because of this treatment, we missed our flight. Unsurprisingly, we received no refund and had to purchase new tickets to return home—costing us significant money and stress. This kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable, especially in an international airport where professionalism and respect for all passengers—regardless of language—should be standard. Travelers deserve better.
