I want to share my recent experience with a property management company. I have been living in New Zealand for the past 12 years, and unfortunately, this has been one of the worst experiences I've encountered.
We were renting a home on a one-year lease. After just two months, we received an email stating that the owner wanted to renovate and sell the property, leading us to agree to end the tenancy early.
Upon moving out, we engaged professional cleaners and left the property in excellent condition. We reached out to the property manager multiple times to arrange for the return of the keys, but our requests were largely ignored. At times, we were told, “Don’t worry, we’ll collect the keys later,” while other times they claimed to already have another key. It felt like we were being given excuses without any real explanation.
We have the cleaning receipt and photos to prove the house was left clean and undamaged.
Now, after 2.5 months, we’ve received charges and are being offered only $1,000 back from our $4,000 bond. We are confused about why this is happening.
I’m sharing this to raise awareness and seek advice from anyone who has faced similar issues. Thank you.
