I bought a HP Laptop in July 2023

I bought a HP Laptop in July 2023. 9 months later Best Serve sent me an E-mail asking if I would like to take out a care package. There were 2 options – a 2-year deal and a 3-year deal. I picked the 3-year deal. When the e-mailed receipt came it showed that the contract would expire in July 2026. It should expire March 2027. So, what they have done is backdate the care package to the date I bought the computer. Nothing in the sales contract that states that this is what they would do. As far as I was aware I had taken out a 3-year contract that should run from March 2024 to March 2027. Because they made the start date July 2023 that effectively means I have paid for 9 months of service that I have never had. I rang them and they said it was a mistake and it would take a few weeks before the correct end date would show on my account. It never did show, so rang again and, after 30 mins on the phone, was promptly cut off by a second person. So, I then raised the issue with PayPal -who sent my complaint to them via their complaints system. Eventually I received a credit note but no instructions on how to redeem the credit and no apology for the way they have handled this complaint. Another e-mail to them, via PayPal, and now the money has been refunded. However, I must point out that I regard this as a serious mis-selling of a product/service. It is wrong to advertise something that does not stand up to the sales pitch of the advert. The contract should start on the date it was taken out and paid for – not back dated to 9 months previous. If you are taking out a care package with them, be very careful! I now have my refund but no apology or explanation from Best Serve. I would have liked to have had the security of 3 years protection but considering the way they have dealt with this complaint I certainly would not trust them to honour any future problems.
