On May 5, I forwarded pictures of myfurnitures room by room, to Bestmove Relocation, and we signed a contract with them for a full service move amounting to $3,995.20. I admit, they are the cheapest among the movers I contacted. The condition was that 2 to 5 days before the move, we will have a video verification of the items listed in our signed Bill of Lading ("BoL") for possible price adjustment. The scheduled date of the move was July 1st, but was later amended to July 5th upon our request.>> On July 2nd, I received an email from Marina of the Company asking me to sign a revised contract (BoL)), increasing our cost from the original $3,995.20 to $5,144.01. The email was sent at 2:33 pm. Surprised, I responded to the email asking why and on what basis our contract is being increased, but never got an answer.someone named Richard, who introduced himself as an employee of the Company, asking if we can do a video verification the following day, July 3rd at 4:00 p.m., which I agreed to.>> Still wondering, about the email sent earlier from Marina, I called the number on the said email and got hold of her, who said I need to talk to Richard instead. She then connected me to his voicemail and I left a message to call me back. A few minutes later, I received a text from Richard’s number, introducing himself at that time as Adrian, and apologized for not returning my call but confirming our video verification for the following day of July 3rd at 4:00 p.m.asking if we are still on for the call. He rescheduled it for 6:00 p.m. on that same day, wherein we did a google video call for maybe 10 minutes, then informed me that I will get an updated BoL. I never mentioned about the first email from Marina because I wanted to compare the new one that he will send me, with that of what I received earlier from her.>> To no surprise, their cubic-foot volume are almost identical. That’s when I confronted Richard about this malicious business of them, trying to increase the amount of the contract even without any basis because the video verification hasn’t happened yet. The price increase came (2:00 p.m.) prior to the visual inspection (6:00 p.m.), meaning, everything was planned or part of their SOP. Richard has no explanation how it happened and promised to find out, he then hang up the phone. A few minutes later, he called offering me a discount of $300.00, insisting about the increased volume he identified during the video verification and promised that the new amount of $5,012.01, on which he already reduced by $300.00, will be the final bill. His new BoL was $5,312.01 before the discount.>> Two days before the move, I almost had no choice, I signed a new agreement of $5,012.01. Also, I have a painting company scheduled to paint the entire interior of our house after the scheduled move.called me scheduling our move to the following day, July 6th, instead of my preferred date of July 5th. That’s the best they can do according to her, being right after the July 4th holiday.>> During that same call (supposedly recorded according to their answering intro), she reminded me that my balance of $3,812.01 has to be paid in CASH. I mentioned to her that the contract says half can be paid by credit card before loading, and half before unloading by either cash or cashier’s check. I got a big NO from her and said the movers has no credit card reader, and I can pay by check, but they will hold my furnitures until the check clears from their bank, which could be a week from pick up being a holiday and the Company is out-of-state.> I asked for my children’s help who lives in VA because at that time, it was late afternoon, a day before the July 4th holiday, and ATM machines will give us a maximum of $1,000.00. Our bank is in Washington D.C. - the Bank Fund Staff Federal Credit Union.>> Then came Sunday, Juy 6th, the day of the move. The movers arrived, asked me to walk them around and identify which are moving. For about 15 minutes, we did that then right after, the foreman said the move is not going to happen for the amount of $5,000.00, because there are a lot more items than what’s on the BoL. He then pointed to some items like a 12”x16” frame already bubble wrapped that he needs to re-wrap, a 36” glass top which will cost $60.00 to wrap, etc, etc. He then said he will move us for $14,000.00 plus the cost of materials that will be used. We were shocked because our furnitures are not that much, it’s just me and my wife, and what a jump from the original $3,995.00 to now $14,000.00 plus. He then said we can cancel if we don’t agree but our down payment of $1,200.00 will not be refunded. To cut the story short, we ended up cancelling the move, and we’ve reached to the point of calling the police because they won’t leave our front driveway, trying to convince us to settle for $11k instead.
