Thank you so much ! By far the best training on autism I’ve attended. Hearing perspectives from both a first responder and a parent took real courage and strength, it opened up an honest level of dialogue that may not have happened otherwise. The tools and strategies shared were practical and will absolutely be used in the field. I would attend again without hesitation, there’s just so much valuable information to take in. The presenter’s passion is immediately noticeable and makes the training that much more because you know that it isn’t just someone talking at you but someone who really wants to help others understand and connect. If you get the chance to attend this training and you’re a first responder or work alongside them, do it—100% worth it.
Hands down the best training on responses to persons on the Autism spectrum that I have received in my career both from the social work and emergency response sides. The presenter has an obvious passion for education and building stronger communities. I appreciated his ability to speak from experience as a retired law enforcement officer as well as a parent. He really understood the struggles that both sides face and was vulnerable in his storytelling. The tools provided were excellent and of a reasonable size to be kept in a car and utilized frequently. The presenter made me think and reconsider current practices.
Captain Turning's perspective as a law enforcement officer and as father to an autistic son uniquely positions him to successfully train and translate information from both perspectives to all audiences. He teaches what first responders are seeing and understandably misinterpreting when encountering an autistic person or responding to an elopement situation and what the autistic person desperately NEEDS them to see and understand.
Jerry is an impactful presenter. He not only offers insights through lived experiences and relevant examples, but gives the audience tools and strategies that can be implemented immediately. All first responders should attend this training.
The training was outstanding. I have a 27 year old special needs son. It was easy to relate to this topic and you can tell the Instructor was very passionate and knowledgeable about this Autism class. It was a great idea that the county offered this class. All LE agencies should take this course. Thank you for coming and sharing your life experiences with the class, Sir.
As an SRO I deal with kids on the spectrum quite a bit. Even though I was aware of quite a bit of the information presented I learned new things to try and to use which was great. Also coming from the aspect and also an Officer brings this in to a whole new light. Definitely will share this training with other officers and also with school staff.
