I ordered a book as a Christmas present. I paid through PayPal. Within hours after accepting my order, I got an email from Books-a-million telling me my book was on backorder and could take as long as 4 weeks before it would be shipped. I tried to cancel my Books-a-million order through email and through their website, but their website refuses to cancel the order because it is marked as "pending." I got no response to my email. Why did the book show as available on their website if they have to backorder it, and why don't they give me an option to cancel the order if the 4 week delay is unacceptable? If the book is 4 weeks away from shipping, it seems like an easy time to cancel it. Meanwhile, they still have my money held at PayPal, they don't respond to my email and they've, without my request, added me to their spam email list providing an unsubscribe link that takes me to a web page that doesn't allow me to unsubscribe. This is a sketchy organization. If you value your money find another seller.UPDATE: Having no luck canceling my backordered book order through their website or by email, I tried calling their customer service number. After waiting on hold for 40 minutes, I was finally connected to a customer service rep who was very pleasant and helpful and canceled my order. I checked my Paypal account, and they released their hold on my money. Then, two weeks after requesting to cancel my order by email, I finally got an email response from them that told me it looked like my order was canceled another way. I told them it was but asked that they please take me off their email lists (I was getting 6-10 spammy emails from them per day!). They said they would but it might take a few days to do it. Hopefully, that will work out. They do seem to want to treat people right, but they are understaffed and have a really aggravating website. I doubt I'll ever do business with them again.
