I am writing to share a terrible experience of using an ATM machine in the Republic of Ireland. When you go to withdraw money in an ATM check the machine doesnt have the name Brinks on it. Firstly you will be charged fees which other ATMs dont charge and secondly I was going to withdraw money yesterday 25/7/24 at one of these machines in a service station. When the screen said I was going go be charged 4.95 e for the withdrawal I cancelled the operation without without withdrawing any money and the machine gave me my card back. I then got a notification from my bank in Spain that 204.95 e was gone from my account. I immediately drove back to the machine wasting my time on holidays and rang the help line number on the side of the machine. I explained and was told that it was processed as a completed transaction not a cancelled one so my Spanish bank would have to reclaim the money. She took my number as I explained how difficult this situation is on holiday and said someone would call me . I am still waiting . I contacted my bank in Spain who says that whatever bank is behind these ATMs hasnt finished processing the transaction and it is showing a date of the 3 rd August 2024 to finish this and until the money is processed they cannot reclaim it. So I am on holiday without the money and it is in limbo thanks to brinks.ie ATM and their useless customer service teamMoral of the story - the next time you are in the Republic of Ireland and are about to use an ATM check for the name Brinks.com or Brinks.ie and use a different machine or you will loose your money forever
