Budget France leaves us in the dark

We trusted the Budget name as it is a popular brand in Australia but now we’re traumatised. We’ve just found out our debit card has been double charged plus more, and no reason has been given. I’ve tried calling multiple budget phone numbers but no one answers. I’ve tried calling AVIS, their supposed sister company but they claim they do not have any connection to budget.We returned the car to the designated spot as per the contract. Not sure what is wrong with their customer service lines and their ways of charging. It can’t be legal to charge twice with no reasoning or even email notification whatsoever! Poor customer experience which has left a sour taste in our mouths. Never will rent from Budget again in France.**update on 29 August 22: after having to go to a Paris branch and speak to personnel face to face, we got a poor explanation that it was due to a scratch on the “front bumper” which we cannot see in a video we recorded when returning the vehicle. They didn’t email us any details regarding this. the Lyon Perrache Office was closed Saturday and Sunday and we returned the car to Lyon Perrache on Saturday evening. Anything may have happened to the car between Saturday and Monday morning as the drop off location is exposed to the public. We got an email reply from someone from the Lyon branch stipulating that there is a scratch on the car, but we didn’t receive any further information. They do not answer their phone at the Lyon Perrache branch, and they sometimes respond to emails. Very evasive. Unbelievable and poor customer service which is disgraceful. We’ve requested an incident report, written confirmation on the damages for which we are liable, repair account and invoice from repairer and itemised list of the damage value as all this information was not given to us, and our travel insurer says we’re rightful in obtaining these. Hoping those out there who book through this company learn from our mistakes! Crossing our fingers for some rectification…
