I am extremely disappointed with my experience with bunq.
My account was suddenly suspended due to what they described as “unusual activity.” I am a freelancer, and I occasionally receive direct payments from clients into my account. There was nothing illegal or suspicious about my transactions — they were simply business payments related to my freelance work.
Without any prior warning, meaningful explanation, or opportunity to clarify the situation, bunq decided to permanently close my account. They stated that my account usage violated their Terms & Conditions but refused to provide any specific details. The decision was marked as “final,” leaving me with no way to defend myself or resolve any misunderstanding.
For a modern digital bank that promotes flexibility and support for freelancers and entrepreneurs, this experience felt extremely unfair and stressful. Freelancers often have irregular income patterns — that should not automatically be treated as suspicious behavior.
Closing someone’s bank account without transparent communication can seriously impact their livelihood. I expected better customer support, clearer communication, and at least the opportunity to provide documentation to explain my transactions.
Based on my experience, I would advise freelancers and small business owners to be cautious. Sudden account closures without detailed explanations can create major financial disruption.
