I bought a fridge freezer and requested the old one to be recycled. On delivery the courier told me he had no instructions to take my old fridge. I called buyitdirect customer service who said they need to create a collection for recycling order with their recycling partner Homesmart who would contact me within 2 weeks with a collection date. After 2 weeks I had not heard from Homesmart and contacted buyitdirect again (both times when calling them I spent three quarters of an hour on hold). The customer service agent told me they were following up with Homesmart and would contact me by end of business. I asked if they had a case number and contact number for me to arrange collection with Homesmart directly to speed up things. But buyitdirect said since they ordered the collection of my old fridge they would have to follow up with Homesmart. So I never received a case number, or contact number, and I never heard from either buyitdirect or Homesmart. In Ireland, the sale of electronics goods is subject to the WEEE directive. If buyitdirect serve the Irish market they should honour the recycling directive. While there is a "We recycle your old appliance" link on the buyitdirect.ie website, this link brings you to a generic information on WEEE but there is no procedure outlined, no number on their website to arrange for recycling, and no "request recycling" option either if you call customer service. The recycling info is misleading as the service, at least in my experience, is not being provided. I find this dishonest and very disappointing. I will not order from them again.
