On the 4/7/23 my husband and I who are both in our 70s arrived at Conkers camp site which is a 100 miles from our home, we were met by a friendly warden who showed us to our pitch. Once we had sorted ourselves out we took our dogs for a stroll and as we walked down the slope we noticed on the other side of the toilet block there was 15 large tents and we wondered what they were there for and very soon our question was answered, it was a school trip.Very soon the noise started but worse was to come, my husband went over to use the washing up area and he had to wait for a long time because of all the kids there and despite the fact that an adult was with them the sinks were left in a terrible state and my husband had to clean up the mess before he could do our washing up. In the morning I went to use the fascillities and they were in a filthy state, it was full of girls screaming at each other and none of the toilets were flushed it made me feel sick BUT it was much worse in the gents none of the toilets were flushed and there was urine all over the toilet seats and the floor. We had a chat and decided to pack up and come home because we need to use the fascillities and they were un usable. We spoke to the people on the pitch next to us who were not happy about the noise but the filth didn't bother them because they were self contained and didn't need to use the toilets or showers on site. So we packed up and left and did the 100 miles back home. A 3 day chill break turned into a total nightmare. The following day my husband emailed the Camping Club to complain and ask for our money back and instead of apologising we were met with a hostile email as an answer. The club tried to turn it round on us and said we were being nasty and we didn't like childfen, this is totally untrue and when my husband replied and said we didnt get what we paid for because it wasn't fit for purpose as we couldn't use the toilets and he said the club was in breach of contract, then there was a change and they offered us 2 nights free anywhere we want and we accepted but really I wanted my money back, if you bought a chicken at Tesco and it was off Tesco would give you your money back because once Tesco has taken your money they have entered into a contract with you and its the same with the CC but it seems they are above the law. We was also told that if we wanted we could always ring the sites to check there not a school trip which means they can do this anywhere anytime. This is not really a complaint its a warning to any members of the CC, you could also be treated like this and its not nice. I wrote a review on the CC website but they didn't print it, how dishonest is that? they only print 5 star reviews. We have got something booked in september and by the time it comes round I might feel differently but at the moment I dont fancy it at all. The whole business has made me nervous because I dont want to go a long way only to be greeted by another awful situation. I hope the wardens dealing with the filth at Conkers were given proper stuff to wear, personally I would want a CSI suit. Also these weren't little children they were about 12 years old and should know better which is what I told one of the teachers. This business has made us look at other sites and we have booked something up in Norfolk and its nothing to do with the CC. I am totally disgusted how we've been treated and they are getting away with it....... PS we have been members of the CC for a long time we joined in the mid 90s but a few years ago we left due to personal reasons 2 years ago we re-joined so it looks like we've only been members for 2 years but this is not the case but this means nothing to the CC.
