I booked a flight to Spain with Ryanair in November 2014 for a flight arriving to Spain in early afternoon. We made all our travel arrangements around this flight - train tickets, car hire, Airbnb accommodation. Four months later, they wrote to us saying the flight is cancelled and offering us either a flight that got in at midnight or a full refund. We had to go for full refund option. In the panic of trying to book a flight for similar times, I booked the wrong date. Realising my mistake immediately, I contacted them within 5 minutes to ask to cancel or modify the flight. We were within the 24-hour grace period, that they say themselves on their website allows you to modify flights without incurring costs. It's been a nightmare ever since, I've spent hours trying to resolve this with them through their online chats and by phoning (where you get charged a very high rate per minute). I've received incorrect and conflicting information from every Ryanair staff member I've spoken to. They refused to let us change the flight even though I contacted them many, many times within those 24 hours. They wanted to charge us £110 per person (3 of us flying) to modify the flight, which is higher than the original costs of ticket! And the only flight they kept offering us, with penalty on top (which shouldn't have applied in 24 hour grace period) is the midnight arrival flight that we had already been offered by them when they first cancelled! For our original flight which we were offered a refund, it then emerged that there was a £40 luggage fee to pay (makes no sense for a flight 3 months away that they cancelled!) and up to 1 month to receive refund. After writing dozens of emails to them, still no answer or resolution. You can't even email them directly - they write and if you try and reply to the email it just bounces back, you have to go online and fill in forms, that a different person writes back everytime with completely different information to the one before. If you phone, they just keep saying they have a no cancellation policy. Absolutely dreadful, will never ever book a Ryanair flight again. If I could give them "0" stars I would. Rude, incompetent, unethical and dishonest. Avoid at all costs!!!
