My Honest Experience – Please Read Before Buying
I want to share my experience so other people don’t go through the same stress my family has faced.
I purchased a Nissan Qashqai from Car Planet at around 24,000 miles. Like most people buying a car, I trusted that it had been properly checked and was in good condition.
Unfortunately, after only about 21,000 miles of driving, the car suffered catastrophic engine failure at just 45,000 miles. The vehicle developed serious problems and required investigation.
An independent engineer inspected the car and confirmed the failure was caused by a broken exhaust valve, which led to major internal engine damage. The report concluded that this issue had been developing prior to the vehicle being sold to me.
This has been extremely stressful for me and my family. A car is something we rely on every day for work and normal life, and instead we have been dealing with the worry of major repair costs and ongoing disputes.
Because of this situation, I also want to share a warning about service plans and warranties.
From my experience, the service plan provided by Car Planet did not give the protection I expected. During servicing I was not advised about any potential problems with the vehicle. Later, when the serious engine issue happened, the situation became very difficult.
I also discovered that Warranty Assist has strict requirements about servicing, and in many cases they expect servicing to follow manufacturer standards. If the servicing does not meet those requirements, claims may not be accepted.
So my advice to anyone buying a car is:
• Carefully check what a service plan actually covers
• Ask where the car must be serviced for warranty validity
• Make sure the service schedule follows the manufacturer’s recommendations
• Keep all records and invoices
I am currently trying to resolve the issue through the proper channels, including escalation to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
I’m not sharing this to attack anyone — I simply want to warn other buyers and hopefully get advice from anyone who may have experienced something similar.
A modern engine failing at 45,000 miles is something I never expected, and I hope sharing this helps others avoid the same situation.
