Extremely Disappointing Experience. Booking.com car hire. I recently booked a car hire through Booking.com for our trip to Italy, paying £339 in advance. When we arrived at our destination, there was **no car available** despite having a confirmed booking. We were left in a very stressful situation and had no choice but to book another car hire on the spot. This last-minute booking cost us significantly more – €780 in total – which was far above what we originally paid. Although Booking.com refunded the initial £339, I was told I would also be reimbursed for any additional costs incurred, as it was clearly not our fault that the car hire was unavailable. However, after returning home, I had to chase Booking.com several times just to be given the correct aftercare contact details. I then contacted the car hire team multiple times, sending copies of invoices and credit card statements as proof of payment. Despite all of this, Booking.com has refused to reimburse me for the extra costs, claiming that due to the way the Italian car hire invoice was set up (with compulsory insurance included), they will not cover the difference. This explanation is completely unfair – I was forced to pay far more than my original confirmed booking because of **their failure to provide the service promised**. The total cost was €780, which is more than double what I should have paid.I’ve gone back and forth with them for weeks, and Booking.com has refused to give me the money that is rightfully due. The whole experience has been frustrating, stressful, and very disappointing.I would strongly caution anyone against using Booking.com for car hire. They do not take responsibility when things go wrong, and customers are left out of pocket despite having trusted their platform.
