DO NOT RENT A CAR THROUGH BOOKINGS.COM!! Read these reviews, I wish I would have. They advertise NO HIDDEN FEES on the website and we were charged 3 times the amount that we initially paid for the car. Worst rental car experience we have ever had. Use Hotwire, wish I would have stuck with them and never tried bookings.com for car rental. ROUTES car rental is the worst!!!!
I have used booking.com a lot for hotel bookings and it’s fairly reliable. For car rental however, they use no less but scamming techniques. Paid a reservation in full, upon reaching the counter was denied getting the car due to no credit card in my name (which was never clearly stipulated during booking), and despite countless emails they stubbornly declined any refund for a service that was paid in full and was never given. On top of the non refund from booking, had to pay twice the price to get a last minute rental somewhere else. Complete scam and complete lack of empathy from booking. Btw the car rental company himself told me he would not charge booking.com since service was not given, so booking.com basically banking a full service fee of 600 euros for not having done anything. Complete scam, will never use booking.com again.

Avoid avoid avoid, vendor told me that the excess insurance wasn’t worth the paper it was written on and wanted another €294 or €2000 on my credit card, my credit card declined the payment but booking.com want to keep the full rental amount despite no booking actually going ahead, I used their live chat and thought they were trying to help despite asking totally irrelevant questions which I answered and was subsequently cut off and the chat ended, I will never use booking.com again for anything, I’ve been truly ripped off, wish I’d read the reviews before I booked.
Non refundable if something goes wrong. I booked a car 6 months in advance. When I showed up at the car counter for the car company after flying 12 hours, no one was there. I called several times the phone number provided. The calls would not go through. I paced and waited over 30 minutes. Finally gave up and my friend rented a car. I have not been refunded. I am challenging the charge through my credit card but I am running into obstacles due to the small print in the car company contract. Bookings.com Is backing their car company. Bookings has poor customer support. It takes hours up of your time trying to “chat” with them. I learned my lesson! This was the second and last time I rent through bookings. This happened six months ago too! At least then I was refunded.
Extremely unprofessional. They stole 240 dollara from me. I was able to both book and pay for a car. I even registered my driver license and met up at the airport to the right time, sola flyplass, Stavanger. But they refused så rent me a car because I hadn’t had my license long enough, fair enough. But they didn’t even refund the money ?? Wtf. I’m a student, and that was ALOT of money to me. This is completely unacceptable!If this is how you operate, you should not accept payment before verifying how long a customer has held a driver’s license. I have rented cars several times through Getaround, and this has never been an issue.I have not held my license for very long, and I am therefore not familiar with all such “rules”. However, what I do know is that this requirement was not made clearly or sufficiently visible on your website. As mentioned, you should never have accepted payment before checking this.Regardless of whether this information may have been stated somewhere on the website or not, the fact remains that I did not receive the service I paid for. I paid over 2,000 NOK, which is a significant amount of money, and I received nothing in return.I showed up at the airport as agreed and was denied the car solely due to how long I have held my driver’s license. Under these circumstances, the very least you can do is issue a full refund.What kind of practice is this ??
I wish I could give this a 0. Do not rent a car via this platform. I booked a car but my flight was delayed and I landed later than usual. When I arrived at the office no one was there, they had all gone home. I didn’t have data or roaming to call and now because I didn’t notify Booking.com at that moment I can’t get my refund at all. Absolutely ridiculous and pathetic. I wish I had read all the reviews before hand.
I’ve had really great experiences with booking.com for many years but the last 2 months have resulted in multiple issues as a result of their completely un-sympathetic approach to customer service.This evening my flight to Belfast International was delayed by about 30 mins past the schedule pickup time (i’d already allowed about 20 mins on top of the scheduled arrival time). The Budget desk was then closed when I arrived and I had to arrange a taxi to my accommodation.As far as booking.com are concerned, this is acceptable customer service and all they’ve offered is a 30% refund and I’m not even sure if it will be possible to collect the car tomorrow (with more taxi costs) if I choose not to accept that.On another occasions, I’ve spotted mistakes with the time slot, shortly after booking, and again all they’ve only offered a minimal refund.I’m sure all this is in the t’s and c’s but it’s at the very best, poor customer service and at the very worst sharp and potentially illegal business practice.Under UTCCR regulations in the UK, fees and costs need to be commensurate with the actual costs incurred and I fail to see how a 70% fee is a fair charge for a service that they have been unable or unwilling to provide.Booking.com are cheap for car hire but that is about all you can say about it.Seriously considering a way forward that avoids dealing with this - I do need transport at this end of my regular work trips but this just seems like a painful way to organise that.
