🚩 I bought a ring on Catawiki from a seller in India. The parcel was blocked at Roissy due to a shipping issue—the carrier was not specialized in precious stones and failed to complete customs clearance.
Although I had already paid VAT and shipping, Catawiki asked me, as a private buyer, to handle the entire customs process myself (find a broker, manage clearance, etc.), which is not realistic. Doing so would have cost me almost as much as the price of the ring itself.
The seller acknowledged that the issue came from the shipping process. However, Catawiki still held me responsible. The ring was returned to India and I was not refunded.
Final result: no item and a loss of around €1200.
Be very cautious and carefully check all potential extra costs and responsibilities before bidding.
