My 2008 Magic Chef Microwave has been a reliable companion for many years of service. It has had some issues over the years, but they were able to be resolved by local repair shops. Last year the Microwave's Cooling Fan and Light began failing to turn on when trying to cook something. The food or beverage would become warm, but since the Fan wouldn't turn on, I would stop cooking quickly so as not to damage the Magnetron. After a fair bit of investigation on the Internet I found what seemed like the issue : the Control Board was faulty. I ordered one from Ebay. It arrived with the Fan Relay snapped off the board. I then ordered a Board from Certified Parts. I installed the Board without any fuss and presto! The Microwave worked like new again! I proceeded to use the Microwave happily for nearly a year. Unfortunately, the same problem has occurred once more. I contacted Certified Parts and spoke with Vahagn. Wow! Great conversation! This is a man who really wants to do his best for his customers. Vahagn has a very personable style. He strikes me as a quintessential Armenian entrepreneur. Diligent. Hard working. Expressive. Conversational. He definitely knows Appliance Parts. Vahagn said that the replacement Boards should last 10 years. He suspected that the Fan or Turntable Motor might be going bad and drawing too many Amps and overheating the Board. He also suspected that excess voltage might be the issue, with the Wiring Harness touching metal, drawing too much voltage and destroying the resistors. Vahagn asked me to keep all my damaged Control Boards. He said if the replacement Board they're sending me fails in the next few years, even beyond the Warranty period, I should send them all the damaged Boards, they will figure out what is going wrong and they'll get things taken care of. As Vahagn said, "We got you."I will be sent a replacement Board now and only need to pay the shipping. Very reasonable. As we were talking, we exchanged some anecdotes and had a very interesting conversation ranging from the phenomenon of "Planned Obsolescence" in modern technology (Vahagn feels it is a result of the pursuit for more efficiency using lighter less durable parts, not necessarily actual greed), the advent of robots and the hopeful outcome of society becoming one of Artists and Creators instead of Laborers, AI is impressive but it doesn't have humanity's rebellious nature that strives to challenge and invent things, Star Trek showed us that mastering Patterns results in mastering manufacturing, Yerevan is one of the oldest continuously populated cities in the world, and Vahagn feels that Used Parts are the Modern Gold Mine where valuable commodities are being thrown away when there is still so much value to draw from them with proper knowledge and quality control. Here is a Renaissance man of the Used Appliance Parts world. It's really great to see someone who loves their work and knows it deeply, and also has a wide ranging mind. I told Vahagn he strikes me as a "teacher" and that I hoped young people get to work with him, because he's the kind of boss who loves his work and would teach his employees happily. Oh, and I have read reviews complaining about the Shipping Times. Vahagn actually addressed that very issue during our conversation. He said he was proud of the quality of the replacement parts they offered, but he recognized that they were not being consistent with getting their products shipped out as promptly as they would wish. He struck me as someone who took this deficiency very seriously and said that in 6 to 7 months he expected they would "have their ducks in a row." Personally, I had no problems whatsover with shipping times of the Control Board I ordered in February 2023. It arrived on time and in perfect condition. I fully expect the same thing to happen with this new replacement Board they'll send out to me. So, all I can say is that my experience with Certified-Parts has been stellar, and I would encourage everyone to count on them to provide high quality used parts with the knowledge to back them up. And, maybe have a little patience with shipping times. ; )Cheers fellow DIY Appliance Savers from Landfills.
