Avoid this vets

Avoid this vets, they have caused serious stress and upset to myself and my family. Chantry Vets back office staff have persistently disrupted my wellbeing by indirectly attacking my understanding of 'common sense'. Forcing me to question myself. In my opinion this is a form of gaslighting! I was owed £1626 from Chantry Vets, I paid for this on 12 August 24 via credit card for a scan for my dog. The insurance team is an online service and therefore took a few days to confirm to the vets that they would accept all costs. The insurance team accepted costs and suggested that the vets invoice them for my costs (the scan), as well as future surgery costs, as they felt it would be a quicker way for me to be refunded. Meaning the vets should refund me on receipt of that acknowledgement from the insurance. However this was not the case. The vets did invoice the insurance for the scan and they were paid this from the Insurance team in full on 3 October 24. Yet continued to keep my money (even though they had now been paid for the scan by myself through credit card and the insurance company). The Vets had no reason to withhold my money and consistently refused to return it. I am a pensioner and I was being hit with interest on the card I had used to pay for the scan, leaving me feeling extremely anxious and having to try to keep paying amounts off when I could, to try to reduce the interest. However, this was of no interest or concern to Chantry Vets, they still refused to refund. The stress of this became too much and I had to get my daughter to support me in dealing with these people in the back office. Once my daughter became involved I did eventually get my money back, however my daughter also had to battle for this and staff tried to tell her she was also in the wrong for questioning them holding my money. This took until mid November to get this back. I have received not a single apology throughout this ordeal and have been made to practically beg for my own money, all I have been met with is deflecting blame excuses and dishonesty, as to why they would not refund it. We emailed Emily (the customer care Manager), who also deflected the blame to us, and refused to accept any accountability that Chantry should have refunded my money, even though they had severe failings. This was after six years of being a loyal customer. However, when it is them that owe me money, it has been a complete battle and cause of extreme anxiety and stress. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through this.

Business Details

  • Chantry Vets has been providing veterinary care to the pets of West Yorkshire for more than 60 years. Initially based in Wakefield Town Centre, we have expanded into one of the area’s largest Small Animal practices.

We have 7 branches located across West Yorkshire in Wakefield, Middleton, Castleford, Pontefract, Normanton & Great Houghton. Our branches are supported by our main Hospital at Brindley Way in Wakefield.
We initially moved from our headquarters at Gills Yard, Wakefield, to Alverthorpe in 2012, but later outgrew this site also. We opened our flagship purpose-built hospital with state-of-the-art facilities in March 2022 to provide greater levels of service to our customers and their beloved pets. Our Gills Yard and Alverthorpe surgeries now provide first-opinion services to the local community in easily accessible locations.

The practice gained hospital status in 2013; the highest level of accreditation available from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). Every four years the practice undergoes rigorous inspections across all our premises.See more
