My partner and I have purchased several systems from Chillblast over the years, most costing over £2,000, with my most recent build costing about £4,100. In the past I was very satisfied with their systems, which is why I returned as a customer and recommended them to everyone. Unfortunately, my most recent experience has changed that.
The system arrived with clear assembly issues and basic functionality problems that should have been identified before shipping. For example, a cable had been routed under enough tension to bend a motherboard pin, something that should not occur in a professionally assembled system (particularly when paid cable management services were included).
More concerning is that the machine did not reliably start or restart. Out of the box it would not POST after shutdown unless the PSU was manually switched off at the rear and then powered back on. Restarting from within Windows consistently failed as well. After a considerable amount of troubleshooting on my own, I was able to partially stabilise the system through significant BIOS changes so that it can now at least shut down and start again without manually cycling the PSU. However, restarting from Windows still does not work. A system at this price point should not require the customer to perform firmware-level troubleshooting simply to achieve basic functionality such as restarting the computer.
I had also paid for an “AMD Performance Optimisation” service. At a minimum, I would expect that to include verifying that the system can POST, shut down, and restart reliably. Given the problems encountered out of the box, it is difficult to believe that any testing whatsoever took place prior to shipping.
There were also smaller signs of poor attention to detail in the build itself, such as manufacturer-supplied hardware (GPU brace) that should have been installed but was left unused in the box.
What is most disappointing is that I previously recommended Chillblast to others specifically because of their reliability and build quality, which I know did result in sales. Based on this experience, I will never so again, nor will I buy from them myself in the future.
For systems at this price point, customers should expect careful assembly, proper testing, and paid services that reflect the work implied by their descriptions. Clearly this did not happen.
Regarding their customer "service," despite bring these issues to Chillblast's attention, I did not receive a single response. Clearly they could not care less.
