Review Time
I bought the train ride with coffee and cake for my parents as a Christmas gift. They enjoyed the experience and said it was a great day out. They were on the train for 2 and a half hours so very good value for money.
We booked our trip which included breakfast late last year and not necessarily for Valentine’s Day (though my husband has been walking around looking smug now for days) it was so well organised, the station attendants and all staff where dressed up in appropriate clothing of the time of a steam train. We had a lovely drink in the cafe before the trip, they sold cakes and breakfast items that looked lovely also!
On the train we were in carriages prepared for our meal. White linen table clothes and a reserved table for each of us. Our drinks and food ordered was taken just as we set off and tea and coffee arrived in lovely large pots followed soon by our breakfast orders.( We had pre ordered these).
The trip was two hours and we had a beautiful view as we ambled along watching nature at its best.
We would both recommend especially as a ‘meal’ as this way your guaranteed your selected seats together as you can buy just train tickets but no guarantee who you may be sat with as it was busy in those carriages.
They seem to provide lunch and evening meal options and also an Indian extravaganza which we are thinking about booking.
The staff on (and off) the train were polite and friendly and enhanced our trip even more. We found the cost superb at just under £58 for the two of us including or breakfast and brews with the option of purchasing selected extras on board (we may have participated in a prosecco it was Valentine’s Day after all)
If your looking for nostalgia and a wonderful way to spend time then we would recommend 100%

Truly amazing experience! The entire setup was exceptionally professional, and the performers were incredibly skilled in their roles. There was an abundance of magic, intrigue, and immense enjoyment! If you're considering whether to make a reservation - GO FOR IT! You won't regret it.
The entire event was exceptionally organized, from the parking to the train journey. The chefs, conductor, and performers were outstanding, making the experience enjoyable and entertaining. My only concern was the interaction with Santa—he overlooked our table as a group of adults, which seemed a bit disrespectful. Other than that, everything was fantastic.
Upon arrival, the staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful, and the vendors offering food and drinks contribute to a cheerful atmosphere. The ladies in the tent awaiting the train's arrival are delightful and truly help everyone get into the festive spirit. Seeing my children's expressions on the train was absolutely priceless; they relished every moment. It's wonderful that everyone wears pajamas, adding to the comfort and excitement of the experience. However, I felt that Santa could have been better; he seemed a bit nervous and rushed, not spending much time with the children (not just mine), and lacked that magical touch. I feel bad saying this because all the other performers were fantastic and very engaging with the kids, encouraging them to sing, dance, and participate. Overall, it was a lovely experience.
This was our first adventure on the train, and while it had some magical moments, it won't be our last. The check-in process and exiting the train were enjoyable. We appreciated the entertainment from the staff, but there were some aspects that could have been better. The hot chocolate was served hot, and the character assisting with gift orders was helpful.
We likely wouldn't choose this again with a family of three. Being split between carriages due to the four-seat arrangement didn't suit us well. Since we booked alongside another family of three, we ended up with one four-seater and two seats with a different family. Aside from that, it was fantastic! The experience was worth it. Everyone was incredible, acting and bringing the story to life. We were glad to have watched the film the night before.
Wonderful experience for both little ones and adults! We started at a charming shopping area with nice food and drink options, some fun props for photos, and a large marquee for boarding. The train's arrival was enchanting, beautifully lit with music. Onboard, a fun conductor and chefs engaged everyone with dancing, singing, jokes, and friendly conversation. Santa was incredible; my kids absolutely believed it was the real deal! This memorable experience was filled with magic and fun, and will surely be cherished for years. Thank you!
