My 15-year-old daughter worked at the Jeffersonville, Indiana, location for a short time, and we unfortunately had several concerning experiences. During her employment, her schedule was inconsistent and frequently changed with little notice. She was often called in on days she wasn’t scheduled or asked to switch shifts unexpectedly, which made it difficult for her to plan around school and family responsibilities. On one occasion, she was left alone in the store despite being new and still learning the job, which made her uncomfortable and concerned for her safety. We spoke with the owner afterward, and while she apologized, the situation should not have occurred in the first place—especially with a minor.Additionally, the required hiring paperwork and documentation for a minor were never completed or requested, and she did not receive the kind of training and guidance we expected for someone her age starting their first job.I’m sharing this to help other parents and young workers be aware of our experience. I hope the store can improve its communication, scheduling practices, and oversight for younger employees moving forward.
