I was promised a 12-month interest-free deal when I purchased a ring. Immediately, I set up autopay to cover the cost in 12 payments. The autopay date was set for the 28th of each month, and I made every payment on time. Recently, I was hit with a $560 interest charge because they claimed I hadn’t paid in full by the due date. Technically, they were correct, but I had actually paid it off in 11 payments as I increased my monthly payment. They refuse to remove the $560 charge. By the due date, I had paid nearly $2000. Even if I was slightly short, they shouldn’t charge interest on the entire purchase. Their system set the autopay outside the timeframe for equal payments. This is predatory and unethical behavior, especially since they misrepresent the terms of their zero-interest offers.
