In October this year my 88 year old Mum had a couple of falls and was consequently taken into hospital. Her health in hospital deteriorated due to a chest infection and bowel infection. This left Mum very weak, bedbound, incontinent, needing pads for bowel movements, needing help to take her medication, not eating or drinking and needing help and basically had lost the will to live. Her cognitive skills and mental health were badly affected. It was obvious to all she needed 24hour care in a nursing home and was not able to go home. I began to look at local nursing homes and they all informed me about CHC but how difficult it was to get approved. I looked online and found Compass and emailed them. I then received a call from Callum John who talked me through how the company worked and about doing an assessment to see if we fitted the criteria. It turned out we did fit the criteria and he sent me lots of information. Each time I visited the hospital, or spoke to Adult Social Care, I quoted lots of information that I had been given. IE CHC is not for end of life care, but for someone who would not survive if they did not have 24 hours nursing care. They looked amazed I knew so much and could quote the 12 areas that were awarded points. I also told them I had looked into CHC myself and taken advice. I felt I was up against a brick wall, but Callum had provided me with such good information I was determined to keep quoting it to them.To my absolute shock they rang a week ago to say CHC funding would be provided and my Mum is now in a local nursing home where I pray she may pick up .I emailed Callum to thank him for the information, we had not at this point gone down the route of asking Compass to officially help. Callum immediately called me and was delighted about the outcome. He has told me that CHC will be reviewed after 3 months and if I need their help to just contact them.Amazing support and invaluable information given right from the start. Thank you so much.
