Core Electronics has become my first choice supplier for anything electrical. I first found them while looking at Raspberry Pi distributors and I was wowed by their extensive range compared to most of the other online retailers. For a long time I would compare all the different distributors and the auction/market sites, but now unless I need something urgently (like “if it’s not working by 5PM tomorrow heads will roll” urgent) I don’t bother.
While they may not always have the very lowest price (—though they often do) they are always competitive. More importantly: the consistency, transparency, and friendly support make any small price difference worthwhile. I’m grateful for their extensive inventory because even though I pay for free next-day shipping with, erm, a *well-known online retailer* I would rather order from Core than deal with unknown random “partner resellers” any day. Not only do they know what I ordered and where it’s at, they know what it’s for and how it’s supposed to work. In the DIY/maker arena, this cannot be understated. There are only a handful of brick and mortar stores in Australia where you can still buy a capacitor or a nozzle for a 3D printer, and unfortunately the knowledge of retail staff can be very hit-and-miss. Buying online from overseas outlets is considerably worse— many vendors are outright deceptive or predatory. There is no amount of marketing hype, sales gimmicks or “promotional gamification” that could replace the trust that comes with consistent, smart customer service. Thanks to the team at Core for stocking cool stuff, shipping the stuff promptly when we give you money, and for contributing to the maker community!
