I closed on a new house on July 9, 2025, and was recommended to use Country Financial for our homeowners' insurance. We had a representative from their local agency (Buddy Johnson) come to the home to take pictures to submit for the policy. At that time, we were told our wood-burning stove did not meet their safety standards and were given sixty days to have the stove removed. This was reasonable, and we agreed we would have the stove removed. Two weeks later, we received a letter from Country Financial stating they were canceling our policy due to the non-removal of the stove. So, before they could leave us without coverage, I obtained new insurance and canceled our policy with Country. The last week of August, Country Financial sent us a check refunding our escrow for the policy. After numerous calls to our mortgage company, our Country Financial agent, and Country Financial itself, we were told to directly deposit the check into our personal bank account and then contact our mortgage company to pay back our escrow, which is exactly what we did. On September 8th, I received a call from our bank stating that Country Financial had put a stop payment on our refund check. They did this without warning, without any written or verbal communication, or any contact whatsoever. This has caused us to bounce checks, accrue bank fees, and put our relationship with creditors in poor standing. When we contacted Country Financial, we were told that they "made a mistake and issued our refund in the incorrect amount." We were also assured that a replacement check had been issued on September 4th for the corrected amount. As of the writing of this review (September 12th), we still have not received our money and are carrying a negative balance with our bank. Country Financial stated that they could put a stop payment on the refund that they supposedly issued on the 4th, but that it "could take one to two full business days to ensure the stop payment is in place" before issuing an ACH transfer, which could then take another three to four business days to hit our account. Bottom line, Country Financial will do whatever it takes to protect THEIR interest while screwing you over without a care. Do yourself a favor...RUN don't walk from this den of thieves!
